Ambulance Victoria regional services general manager Tony Walker stated that there are number of call-outs related with respiratory issues which were considered to be "much higher than normal", and usually resulting in emergency management plan which was being launched at 11pm.
Mr Walker added: "This meant that we increased our focus on the most critical emergencies to ensure that they had an ambulance respond with lights and sirens to their case. I can only assume the workload was felt all across the health service, as our paramedics experienced waits at a number of hospitals across Melbourne to transfer patients.”
It was further stated that the delays concerned with the health care units are frustrating and so are the paramedics as they no longer are available to answer back the callings. Mangers have already been given the task to offer a hand in negotiating the situation as soon as one gets to know about the increased delays.
