Govt. may miss its target of 2.5 lakh kiosks by 2012
While the project of the information technology (IT) kiosks to offer government services in rural India was launched in the Indian market with a very high level of optimism, the fact of the matter is that the government may miss its expanded target of establishing 250,000 centres because of delays in releasing funds.
It has been learned from the source in the department of information technology (DIT) that it has been able to set up only 80,000 kiosks in the past four years and is still far from its initial target of 1 lakh kiosks in the country.
Another DIT officials has said that the department had received a funding of close to Rs. 1,700 crore for setting up an initial 1 lakh kiosks in India but it had written to the expenditure finance committee to allocate an additional 2,800 crore for the revised target, how Mahindra plans 125cc and 300cc bikes for India.
