Govt Invites Top Travel Writers To See Safe India
After the India's tourism industry being hit by terrorism government has now invited some of the best writers on travel from the US and Europe to help recover the industry.
They shall visit India from January onwards and shall visit exotic destinations and the cities affected by terrorism and to write about how safe is the travel in the country.
An official from tourism said, "Some of the writers will be taken to those cities where terror attacks have taken place so they can write about the security steps taken by the authorities."
Tourists from Europe and the US are the largest who visit India and last year, over 5 million foreign tourists visited the country but the 26/11 attack in Mumbai and also the global recession hit the tourism very hard.
Partick Adams, a writer on travel from the US Global Traveller Magazine, shall visit India for the first time and he shall visit Mumbai, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and shall write about his visit covering the safety and security situation in these cities.
Next to visit are Georgina Hidalgo and Sebastian Belaustegui, journalists from Mexico, who shall visit Karnataka, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Catherine Ardouin, writer, and Philippe Garcia, photo journalist from France shall visit Chennai and Pondicherry.
Mumbai, the financial hub of India shall be visited by most of the writers. Mumbai was attacked by ten terrorists on November 26 in which about 170 people were killed and 300 injured and in the attack all except for one terrorists were killed by the security officials
Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore shall be amongst the much sought places, which will be visited as these witnessed the terror attacks this year.
An official said, "We had advised the India Tourism offices overseas to liaison with the media and travel trade representatives in their respective regions and examine the possibility of organising familiarisation tours to Mumbai and other regions of the country. The idea is to get first-hand information on the ground realities."
He further said that they have already listed some visits by media for January and February under their hospitality scheme.
A group of 10 tour operators and five media persons from Britain shall also make a visit.
A four member television team from Ireland will visit Goa and Delhi in January which shall be followed by an Austrian journalist Anita Ericson, who shall visit Tamil Nadu.
Alexander Veldhoen, a journalist from the Netherlands, shall stay in India for a month and visit various sights of Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Thiruvanathapuram.
The official said, "The India Tourism office in New York in consultation with the Indian embassy in Buenos Aires is working out the details of a familiarisation tour for media representatives from Argentina."
The New York office shall also contact various new agencies and extend invitations for their visit to India. These shall include organisers of ABC News Programme Good Morning America, NBC News Today Show and CSC Early Show.
