Govt Doctors On Indefinite Strike In Karnataka

Govt Doctors On Indefinite Strike In KarnatakaAround 5,000 doctors working under the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Karnataka have threatened to deepen their two-day-old agitation, by paralysing emergency as well as postmortem services in government hospitals across the State.

Doctors are demanding salaries on par with physicians coming under the Department of Medical Education.

Dr. Satyanarayana, President of Karnataka Medical Officers' Association said that the agitators would intensify the stir as they ‘failed’ to be convinced by senior officers including Madan Gopal Principal, Secretary H&FW, and P Sreenivasachary, Commissioner H&FW who met them in Bangalore.

Dr. Satyanarayana also said that their meeting with Madan Gopal was for approval of three demands including, pay hike on par with doctors working in Medical Education department, regularization of contractual doctors and passing of an ordinance against assault on doctors on the lines of the one in Andhra Pradesh.

While the strike has been partial yesterday and today with emergency and post mortem services functioning normally, it will be total from tomorrow till our demands are met, Dr. Satyanarayana said.
