Government includes Vivek Tankha in its legal team
Government has introduced Additional Solicitor General Vivek Tankha in its legal team for strongly representing its case before the Supreme Court, taking up the Ambani gas dispute in next few days.
Tankha and ASG Mohan Parasaran will represent government over quantity and price issue in the Ambani brothers gas row.
Tankha’s name, as per sources, was cleared by a panel of ministers headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee yesterday. Government, in a special leave petition filed in the apex court, has said that gas prices cannot be unilaterally decided by a private party and it has its role to play in the matter keeping in mind the national and consumer’s interests.
Government said that it has a right to interfere in the gas pricing and utilization, being gas a national resource. RIL requires supplying gas to RNRL at a price of $2.34 per mmBtu based on a 2005 family agreement but RIL declined to honour the deal asking the need of government approval over the pricing issue.
