Global car models record high growth in IndiaIndia has emerged as the largest market for some of the cars available globally with the demand led by increasing disposable income of the middle and upper middle class in the country.

Many new models from different manufacturers are entering the Indian market and major automakers are keen to make India their hub for small cars.

South Korean Car maker's India unit, Hyundai Motor India launched i10 in December 2008 within a year the car emerged as the highest-selling model in the compact car category for the company.

The company sold 1,37,564 units of i10 in the domestic market and 1,35,000 units of the car were exported to Europe from the country. Hyundai Motor India is the country's largest passenger car exporter and second largest car manufacturer.

Honda's flagship model Honda City also sells highest in the country. It sold 54,634 units of the car between November 2008 and December 2009 after it launched the third generation model.

As for General Motors's Spark, India is the second-largest market for the vehicle behind China and the company hopes that India will soon overtake China for sales of Spark.

The country largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India offers three global models in the country, Swift, SX4 and Ritz. The company has plans to expand capacity like other automakers in the country.

Maruti Suzuki India now produces and sells more cars than its parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation. The company sold 967581 units and manufactured a total of 9,66,399 units in 2009.
