German al-Qaeda suspect on trial
Karlsruhe - German state prosecutors on Thursday charged a suspected al-Qaeda member from Germany on suspicions have having acquired money and equipment and recruiting fighters for the al-Qaeda terror network in Germany.
Omer O., a 31-year-old of Turkish origin, is accused of having recruited members including Bekkay Harrach, a supposed al-Qaeda terrorist who recently threatened Germany in a series of terror videos, according to a statement released Thursday by investigators in Karlsruhe.
State prosecutors say Omer O. introduced Harrach, a German of Moroccan origin, to an alleged accomplice Aleem N., who in turn arranged for Harrach to attend an Al-Quaeda training camp.
Omer O. is also to have completed a terrorist training course at the camp on the Afghan-Pakistani border.
Omer O. is being charged with membership of a foreign terrorist organisation and for breaching laws on foreign trade, at the regional court in the German city of Koblenz.
Aleem N. is also facing prosecution in the same court of law. (dpa)
