Latvia suffers GDP drop, rating downgrade

Fears about the future of the three Baltic economies grew as the flash estimate showed Latvia's gross domestic product (GDP) falling more than analysts had expected. Second-quarter growth in 2008 was 0.1 per cent.

Dr. Sampaio who is on his official visit to India from November 2-7 in connection with attending the board meeting of the Global Fund for fighting against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria called on Dr. Ramadoss to discuss issues pertaining to the ongoing Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme in India.

British policeman jailed for having sex while on duty

Gary BayldonLondon - A British police officer who admitted having sex with one woman while on duty and propositioning another after she had been arrested was Friday jailed for four months.

Gary Bayldon, 48, who was married at the time, would visit one divorced mother at her home for sex while on late shifts, Kingston Crown Court, near London, heard.

He also asked the second woman to go the woods with him and caressed her hands while taking her fingerprints at the police station.

Force India ends engine contract with Ferrari

Force India ends engine contract with FerrariHamburg  - The Force India Formula One team announced Friday that it has brought to an early end its engine deal with Ferrari, opening the way for a possible switch to Mercedes for next season.

The team, which is controlled by Indian billionaire Vijay Mally and has Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil as its drivers, had agreed a deal in 2007 to take Ferrari engines until the end of the 2009 season.

"Force India Formula One Team today announces it has ended its contract with Ferrari," the team said in a statement.

EU financial summit drags on

EU financial summitBrussels - A European Union summit called to discuss a set of guidelines for reforming the global financial system dragged on Friday, suggesting the bloc's 27 leaders were struggling to find an agreement.

The lunchtime talks in Brussels were still underway at 1450 GMT, nearly one hour after a scheduled final press conference from the French presidency of the EU had been due to take place.

EU leaders were discussing guidelines on how to reform the global financial system in the wake of the current turmoil on world markets.
