GM, Ford report massive losses; Obama assures supportWashington  - The two major US automakers, Ford Motor Co and General Motors Corp, reported massive third-quarters losses Friday as the ailing industry continued to lose cash and shed jobs.

Ford, the second-largest US automaker, reported a third-quarter operating loss of 2.98 billion dollars and said it would cut jobs and spending to preserve its perilous cash reserves.

At least 30 dead as school building collapses in HaitiPort-au-Prince  - At least 30 people, including many children, died when a school building collapsed Friday in the Petion Ville suburb of Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, while more than 100 were injured, Haitian Radio Metropole reported.

The Evangelical Promise school in the area of Nerette collapsed at around 10 am (1500 GMT) Friday, with some 700 students inside, the report said. The three-storey school educated students from kindergarten to middle school.

 According to a report published in the 4 Nov issue of Neurology, diabetic Alzheimer’s patients were twice likely to die sooner than the ones who did not suffer from diabetes. Hypertensive Alzheimer’s patients were two and a half times more likely to die sooner than the Alzheimer’s patients who did not suffer from hypertension.

Kerstin Albertsson-Wikland, MD, PHD, professor of pediatrics at the University of Gothenburg, was the study's lead author. The researchers conducted study on 151 children. Some of these children were given no treatment; others two different doses of growth hormone, given for an average of nearly six years. The effects and results were followed over a period of up to 20 years, until they reached their final height.
