Pilot guided to safe landing after going blind at 15,000ft

London, Nov 8 : A lone pilot flying a four-seater Cessna aircraft went blind at 15,000ft when he suffered a stroke, and only made it safely to the ground after he was guided by an RAF wing commander.

Jim O''Neill, 65, a businessman with 18 years experience, was flying from Prestwick airport in Scotland to an airfield near Colchester, Essex on 31 October when the instruments on his aircraft became difficult to read.

O''Neill had at first assumed that it was only the glare of the sunlight as he flew over north England at 15,000ft, but when the dials blurred completely he realised the full horror of his predicament: he was a solo pilot who had suddenly gone blind.

PCB serves show cause notice on “rebel” Yousuf, wants its Rs 1 crore back

Pakistan Cricket BoardLahore, Nov 8: The PCB is learnt to have served a show cause notice on its star batsman Mohammad Yousuf who recently joined the “rebel” Indian Cricket League (ICL).

The Board also asked him to return Rs one crore which it had spent on Yousuf in fighting a legal case on his behalf in India after he rescinded his ICL contract last year to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) promoted by the BCCI. The ICL had then blocked his move (to join (IPL) by filing a beach of contract case in an Indian court.

IMF: China’s Growth to fall from 9.3 percent to 8.5 percent

IMFWashington, Nov. 8 : The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cut its forecast for China''s economic growth in 2009 to 8.5 percent from 9.3 percent.

According to the China Daily, it also changed its estimate of developed countries'' growth next year to a decline of 0.3 percent, from 0.5 percent growth.

The IMF now expects the global economy will grow 2.2 percent in 2009, 0.8 percentage point less than last month''s estimate.

European parliamentarians' "Dignity" boat docks in Gaza

Gaza, IraelGaza - A third voyage to challenge Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip successfully completed on Saturday morning as the "Dignity" ship docked in the harbor of the Islamists-ruled territory.

Palestinian witnesses said the ship, which set sail Friday from Cyprus, berthed at 0930 am (0730 GMT) in Gaza fishing port with a handful of Hamas officials and tens of Palestinians welcoming the delegation.

The yacht carries 11 journalists, human rights and peace activists in addition to 12 European parliamentarians who Egypt barred from traveling to Gaza through its territories last month.
