Nicole Kidman, Australia miss out on Screen Actors Guild nominations

Nicole Kidman has baby girlMelbourne, Dec 19 : Aussie actress Nicole Kidman and her new movie `Australia' have missed out on being nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The nominations were announced in West Hollywood on December 19, with the Guild being seen as the paving stone to Academy Awards, reports News. com. au.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, Australia failed to secure even one nomination, with Kidman, Hugh Jackman and 13-year-old acting newcomer, Brandon Walters, not being considered for any award.

While Becks is willing to celebrate it in Britain, Posh is adamant to spend it in Los Angeles.

Kate Winslet short-listed for two Screen Actors Guild awards

Kate WinsletLondon, Dec 19 : English actress Kate Winslet has been shortlisted for two categories at the 2009 Screen Actors Guild awards.

Winslet, 33, has been nominated for best actress for Revolutionary Road, and for supporting actress in post-war drama The Reader.

The Titanic star, who is a five-time Oscar nominee, had been nominated at the Golden Globe awards too for the same films, and she received another two nominations from the London Film Critics'' Circle on December 18.

Think tank issues gloomiest outlook yet for Irish economy

Dublin - A Dublin-based think tank issued its gloomiest outlook yet for the Irish economy Friday, forecasting a drop in economic activity of 4.6 per cent in 2009 and a jump in unemployment to almost 10 per cent.

"The Irish economy is in the midst of a contraction that is large by both historic and international comparisons," the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) said in a statement.

Ireland's gross national product, which does not include net investment from abroad, is expected to fall by 2.6 per cent this year before slumping by 4.6 per cent next year.

Investment in Ireland would drop by 19.3 per cent in 2009, the ESRI forecast, while consumption would drop 3.6 per cent.
