India, Pakistan activists promote peace at Amritsar seminarAmritsar, Jan. 12 : Indian and Pakistani social and peace activists besides religious leaders attended a special seminar on Sunday, intended to defuse the growing tensions between countries since the Mumbai terror attacks of 26/11.

The seminar titled "Atankwad Ki Chunauti aur Dharam ki Bhumika" (the challenge of terrorism and the role of religion) held here at the S. R. Government College here.

Man punches shark as it bites his leg at Lake Illawarra

Melbourne, Jan 12 : A 23-year-old Aussie man, who was snorkeling, saved his own life from a shark by punching it.

The snorkeller was swimming under the Windang Bridge when he felt a tug on his leg, and saw a flurry of white water.

He punched out at a brown shape that was believed to have been a bull shark.

After he freed himself, he made his way to mud flats where he flagged down a passing boat.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics, and had suffered about 40 puncture wounds to his calf and an abrasion on his hand, caused by punching the shark.

He was later taken to Shellharbour Hospital.

Rooney confident of ManU topping English Premier League

Wayne RooneyLondon, Jan 12 : Ace striker Wayne Rooney has warned Liverpool that he is about to dump them off the top of the Premier League.

The England striker scored in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, The Sun reported.

They are now favourites to win the title and will overtake both Chelsea and Liverpool by Saturday night if they beat Wigan at home on Wednesday and then pick up another three points at Bolton on Saturday.

Barack ObamaWashington, Jan. 12 : US President-elect Barack Obama has reiterated his promise to close the American military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where hundreds of detainees have been held for years without trial or even being charged with a crime.

But he could not promise that it would be done quickly.

Obama, who has been receiving daily national security briefings since his election in November, acknowledged that his campaign pledge to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay would be more of a challenge than he anticipated.

Geri, who recently spent a romantic Christmas in Dubai with House, reportedly spent an hour just gazing at potential male wedding bands at a jeweler's in London's diamond district, Hatton Garden.

"Geri was certainly taking her time over it," the Sun quoted a fellow-shopper, as saying.

Brit cop compiles guide to teach colleagues how to spell

London, Jan 12 : A police superintendent has complied a new guide that will teach Brit cops how to spell, after being fed up with the clangers in crime reports.

Superintendent Gary Knighton has compiled a booklet for 2,000 officers who struggle to spell even the simple words.

It explains that someone who provides information is a source - not a sauce.

For those uncertain about how many `c's and `s's are there in "necessary", the booklet asks to remember that shirts have one collar and two sleeves.

The booklet also explains the differences between "two" and "too", "threw" and "through" and "weather" and "whether".
