La Paz  - Sixteen people died and 27 were injured in a bus accident in Bolivia's coca leaf-growing region, police said Monday.

The accident took place Sunday, when the bus carrying 43 people fell down a 200-metre ravine in the town of Pasto Pata, on the so- called Death Road. Two of the injured were in serious condition.

The road links La Paz, 3,600 metres above sea level, to the Yungas region, 800-1,500 metres above sea level. It generally runs parallel to the depressions opened by rivers as they descend towards the Amazon River, linking hundreds of rural villages.

On Monday, it was revealed by World Bank that action against a total of five entities in India, including Wipro Technologies, and an individual has been taken. This comes in the scene when the controversy involving Satyam's debarment has also not vanished completely.

Besides offering improper benefits to Bank staff, these entities and individual were also found to have violated the fraud and corruption provisions of the Procurement Guidelines or the Consultant Guidelines. So the action against them was taken by the World Bank authorities.

Cairo - Arab foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting in Kuwait on Friday to discuss means of stopping Israeli attacks on Gaza, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said Monday.

Moussa said the ministers would discuss "the continuing Israeli aggression on Gaza," following Israel's rejection of UN Security Council Resolution 1860, which calls for an immediate ceasefire.

Both Hamas and Israel have rejected the Security Council resolution.

It was announced by India's top mobile operator, Bharti Airtel on Monday that mobile services in Sri Lanka has been launched by it and the company would also invest $200 million on the operation in the island.

Via its subsidiary Bharti Airtel Lanka, the company has launched the services on a third generation network. A suite of innovative services and redefined affordability by offering attractive call rates has also been launched by Airtel.
