Pantaloon Retail registers 7% growth in Q3 Net profitPantaloon Retail (India), the country’s biggest publicly traded supermarket operator, informed that its net profit has surged by 7.07 per cent to Rs 34.37 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.

The company declared results for third quarter, because its financial year ends on June 30.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Pantaloon said that it had a net profit of Rs 32.10 crore in the same quarter ended March 2008.

Cryolor intends to setup a manufacturing unit near Chennai

Cryolor intends to setup a manufacturing unit near ChennaiCryolor, French industrial gas tanks manufacturer and a 100 per cent subsidiary of Cryolor SA, has decided to set up a manufacturing facility near Chennai.

The plant would be setup at Melmaruvattur in Chennai, covering a built up area of 15,000 sq. m.

The company intends to pump an investment worth Rs 45 crore on the plant through its fully owned subsidiary Cryolor Asia Pacific.

Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to AsthmaAccording to a recent study, Vitamin D deficiency can be linked to asthma. This makes the populations of sunlight deficient regions more prone to this disease of the respiratory tract.

In the study, published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Juan C. Celedon at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital and co-investigators examined the association between vitamin D levels and markers of asthma severity and allergy in 616 asthmatic children between the ages of 6 and 14 from Costa Rica. They found that 175 had insufficient levels of vitamin D.
