 PTF demands compensation as Pakistan-Oman Davis cup tie shiftedIslamabad, Jan. 2 : Angered over the shifting of the Davis Cup tie between Pakistan and Oman to Oman, the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has demanded a compensation of 60, 00,000 dollars from the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The PTF has lodged a strong protest with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) over the shifting and demanded that the matches should be played at any neutral venue.

Bajaj Group Resolves Family Dispute

BajajThe five year long family dispute of the Bajaj industry group has been resolved amicably. Two groups of companies have been formed without transfer of any cash. The petitions filed by Mr Shishir Bajaj with the Company Law Board in March 2003 have been withdrawn with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Shishir Bajaj has resigned from the chairmanship of Sevashram, the financial arm of the Bajaj group. In a statement to CLB, Shisir Group said, "With this, all disputes between both sides stand resolved."

British Army takes up kabaddi to avenge cricket losses to India

London, Jan 1 : While England has not been winning any major cricket or football events, the British Army is working hard on the ancient Asian sport of kabaddi to defeat their Indian counterparts.

The sport initially started in Britain to attract recruits from Asian communities, but it lately became such a hit that the team gave the Indian army''s national squad a tough game.

Ashok Das, who coaches the Army team, has even predicted on Indian national television that a future English national team would be the best in the world at the game, which caused consternation in India.

"They said to me, `You are Indian, aren''t you ashamed to do this to your country?'" the Telegraph quoted Das as saying.

Austrian bank exposed to Madoff funds to come under state control Vienna - Vienna-based Bank Medici AG is set to come under state control, as the bank was exposed to funds of the failed US investor Madoff, Austrian news agency APA reported Friday.

Financial authorities put together an order under which the small bank will be managed by a government commissioner, APA reported.

While the small bank said in December that it was exposed to 2.1 billion dollars through two of Madoff's funds, Austrian newspaper Der Standard reported a sum of at least
3.6 billion dollars.

Finance Ministry For Fresh Proposal On 3G Prices The Union Finance Ministry has asked the telecom department to double the floor price for 3G and wireless broadband spectrum. The move can further delay the 3G auction process scheduled for January 16.

The finance ministry has asked to submit fresh proposal to the Cabinet with the desired changes. Two anonymous executives of the telecom companies said that the move would make 3G services more expensive for the consumers. Telecom companies expressed reservations on the fresh move of 3G prices issue.

Prosecutors seek extension of Kurdish activist's sentence

Turkey FlagAnkara - Prosecutors in Turkey are seeking to increase a jail sentence that was handed down to Leyla Zana, a former parliamentarian and winner of the European Parliament's 1995 Sakharov Peace Prize, from 10 to 45 years, the Anadolu news agency reported on Friday.

A court in the south-eastern city of Diyarbakir last month ruled that Zana had spread "terrorist propaganda" in a number of speeches made in recent years, and that she was a member of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), sentencing her to ten years in prison.
