Dada To Be Felicitated With Gloden Bat Dada aka the Cricket legend Sourav Ganguly is all set to receive a one-kilogram gold bat at a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) felicitation programme on Sunday. The cost of the bat is expected to be around Rs 25 lakh. The gold bat has Ganguly's cricketing records embossed on it.

Speaking on this, Jagmohan Dalmiya, CAB President said, “It will be a totally cricket-centric function. So, there will be no cultural programmes.”

A15 minutes film which will portray Ganguly's life from a child till his retirement as a cricketer would also be shown in the programme.

"Angel Face" US student goes on trial for murder in Italy

Perugia, Italy - A media frenzy surrounded the opening Friday of a trial in which a US college student and her Italian former boyfriend are accused of sexually assaulting and murdering her British roommate.

Scores of reporters, including many from the US and Britain, packed a courthouse in Perugia where Amanda Knox from Seattle and Raffaele Sollecito appeared in front of an eight-member jury, the ANSA news agency reported.

The two were indicted in October for the murder of 21-year-old British student Meredith Kercher, found semi-naked with her throat cut, in the apartment she shared with Knox in 2007.

Serb war criminal serving sentence in Germany

Germany MapBerlin - A former Serb general convicted by the UN war crimes tribunal has arrived in Germany to serve a life sentence, the Justice Ministry announced Friday.

Stanislav Galic, 65, was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in December 2003 for crimes related to the shelling of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.

Galic appealed the judgement, but the appeals chamber rejected his arguments and, in November 2006, extended his sentence from 20 years to life imprisonment.

Spain MapMadrid - The Spanish government was Friday expected to lodge a low-key protest with the Cuban embassy over Cuban criticism of Madrid regional Prime Minister Esperanza Aguirre, who was slammed for her anti-Castrist views, the Spanish media reported.

Aguirre has repeatedly criticized the leftist revolution that took place under the leadership of Cuba's former president Fidel Castro 50 years ago, and gave her backing to an anti-Castrist demonstration scheduled for February 1 in Madrid.
