Four bodies located in collapsed apartment building in Norway
Oslo - Emergency services have located the remains of four of
five people killed when a massive rockslide last month hit a six-
storey apartment building in western Norway, police said Tuesday.
The remains of a fourth victim were located Tuesday but some
additional work remained before the body could be retrieved and
formally identified, broadcaster NRK said.
Two victims have so far been formally identified.
Fifteen people survived the March 26 rockslide that hit the
building, located on the slopes of a mountain in the town of Alesund.
A fire, fuelled by a leaking gas tank in the basement, earlier
prevented rescue workers from entering the badly damaged building.
Theories about what caused the accident included ice wedging caused
when water seeps into rock fissures and freezes, breaking the rock into
smaller pieces.
Scores of people were evacuated from nearby buildings over fears of an explosion.(dpa)
