Former ISI ‘Midnight Jackal’ operative’s secret trysts with Zardari revealed

Former ISI ‘Midnight Jackal’ operative’s secret trysts with Zardari revealedIslamabad, Apr. 9 : Former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) operative Major Amir has reportedly developed close ties with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and other top leaders of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).

Sources said that Major Amir has met President Zardari several times in the recent past, and also accompanied him to Saudi Arabia in November last year.

Interestingly, Major Amir is the same man who along with Brigadier Imtiaz had allegedly conspired with other political leaders to bring down the first Benazir Bhutto government in 1989.

Both the ISI operatives had launched an operation `Midnight Jackal' to make the then PPP Members of National Assembly (MNA) support a no-confidence motion against their own prime minister (Benazir Bhutto).

The then Director-General of Pakistan's Intelligence Bureau, Masood Sharif Khattak has also said that both Major Amir and Brigadier Imtiaz were caught on videotapes persuading PPP MNA's to topple the government.

Pakistan's presidential spokesperson, Farhatullah Babar, has, however, denied reports of meetings between Major Amir and President Zardari.

"I have never seen Major Amir in the Presidency during my stay. Moreover, I have not seen his name in any of the scheduled meetings of the president," Dawn quoted Babar, as saying.

He failed to reply to queries as to why Major Amir accompanied Zardari on his entourage to Saudi Arabia. (ANI)
