Florida is jumping up in the list of most populous states and many cities in the state feature among the fastest-growing cities. Lately, The US Census Bureau has released a data as per which, The Villages, Florida, has been ranked as the nation's fastest growing metro in 2014.

Between July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014, the city west of Orlando unveiled about a 5.4% increase in population. The news came as in December Florida became the nation's third most populated state.

The Census Bureau said that the growth is owing to many factors like the increase in the state's metroplexes in areas like central and southern Florida. Census Bureau Director John H. Thompson said that six Florida metro areas were among the 20 fastest-growing.

For a long time, Florida has been known as a state for retired people, beaches and vacationers. In fact, there was a time when there were more deaths than births in around half of the state's counties. But with the coming of new residents things have changed.

As per the census data released in December, between July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014, the state had average of 803 new residents every day. Texas was at the top when it came to increase by per person for counties and metro areas.

Harris County, Texas, is at the top when it comes to population growth by person. When it comes to percentage then Williams County, North Dakota, was the fastest-growing county with the population of more than 10,000 people.

From 2013 to 2014, the population has increased by 8.7%. After Williams County, Stark County, North Dakota was at 7%; Sumter County, Florida, at 5.4%; Pickens County, Alabama, at 5.4% and Hays County, Texas, at 4.8%.

New York was the nation's largest metro area having around 20.1 million people.
