Five dead, four rescued in Alaska shipwreck

Five dead, four rescued in Alaska shipwreck San Francisco  - Five fishermen were killed and four were rescued after a dramatic shipwreck and rescue operation in freezing waters in Amchitka Pass, which links the Bering Sea to the Pacific Ocean about 2,200 kilometers southwest of Anchorage, the Anchorage Daily News reported Thursday.

Two other crew members were missing.

The report said that the 30-metre vessel, the Katmai, went down in heavy seas Wednesday and that the survivors were in an emergency raft for 15 hours before being picked up by a coastguard helicopter. A search continued for the remaining two crew members. (dpa)
