Rome  - Swimming's controlling body FINA on Saturday awarded the right to host the 2013 world championships to Dubai.

A secret vote by the 21-member FINA Bureau in Rome on Saturday saw the Middle Eastern city defeat fellow candidate cities Moscow and Hamburg.

The 2009 world championships began in Rome on Friday, while the 2011 edition will be held in the Chinese city of Shanghai.(dpa)
