Equities Open Positive; DLF, JP Asso, ICICI Bank Surge  Indian equities opened on a positive note on the back of optimistic global signals and Federal Reserve decision to buy up to $300 billion in long-term U.S. government bonds to boost the nation's economic system.

The stocks from consumer durables, banking and realty sectors were trading up with marginal gains.

Inflation numbers are set to release today.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index gained 1.05% and 1.01% respectively.

Today, the 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened after making a gain of 46.36 points at 9,023.04 as against its last day’s closure in which it gained 112.86 points (1.27%).

At 10.04 a.m., the 30-share index Sensex gained 92.25 points at 9,068.93. It hit a high of 9,068.93 and a low of 9,023.04.

Meanwhile the broad based Nifty stood at 2,812.55, up 17.85 points, after hitting a high of 2,821.35 and a low of 2,796.25.

The total breadth of the stock market was positive as it witnessed 621 progressions as against 146 declinations.

The major gainers in the 30-share index included DLF, which gained 9.33%, Jaiprakash Associates surged 8.14%, ICICI Bank climbed 6.29%, Tata Steel zoomed 5.60%, Hindalco Industries increased 4.69% and Sterlite Industries  (India) jumped 4.60%.

The losers’ list comprised Mahindra & Mahindra, which lost 3.32%, ITC declined 1.79%, Tata Power Company dropped 1.59%, Hindustan Unilever fell 0.75%, and Bharti Airtel was down by 0.21%.

On global front, Asian stocks also moved up, led by banking institutions and commodity companies.

Japan’s Nikkei dropped 32.93 points (0.41%) to trade at 7,939.24, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index lost 3.42 points to trade at 13,113.75.

Shanghai Composite surged 21.75 points to trade at 2,245.47. (10.15 a.m.)

European stocks dropped, as unemployment got up at the fast pace since at least 1971, and falling metal and oil costs hurt basic resources stocks.

FTSE 100 declined 52.11 points to end at 3,804.99, CAC 40 declined 6.94 points to end at 2,760.34 and DAX gained 8.55 points to end at 3,996.32.
