Enterasys to provide high-density Wi-Fi at Gillette Stadium

Enterasys to provide high-density Wi-Fi at Gillette Stadium In a Monday announcement, Andover, Mass.-based networking vendor Enterasys Networks said that it has worked out a deal with Kraft Sports Group for providing high-density Wi-Fi at Gillette Stadium.

With Enterasys - a Siemens Enterprise Communications company - set to provide free Wi-Fi connectivity at the Gillette Stadium, all the fans at New England Patriots games will be able to connect to NFL replays, real-time stats and social networks via their mobile devices.

According to the information shared by Enterasys, which has already provided wireless networking at a Poland stadium as well as the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Wi-Fi at Gillette Stadium will pave the way for high-speed wireless connectivity, not only for the fans at New England Patriots games, but also for other events held at the stadium.

Noting that providing high-density Wi-Fi at a stadium is as challenging as putting the equivalent of a small city in a cramped space, Enterasys CEO Chris Crowell said that the problems of such a deployment of wireless networking involved the handling of several radio signals "flying across a limited space," and isolating the signals "in a structured way" so as to avoid overlapping.

Revealing that, at Gillette, each section of the Foxboro stadium was isolated for control by a separate system, Crowell said that Kraft Sports Group's "unique vision" will result in providing high-density Wi-Fi connectivity to
70,000-plus users "by giving the in-stadium experience plus the at-home experience such as replays."
