Election delay Pakistan’s internal matter: UN
New York, Jan 3: The United Nations has said that Pakistan’s decision to postpone the January 8 elections was country’s "internal matter".
"We have no comments as it is an internal matter of Pakistan," UN spokesperson Michele Montas said.
Replying to a question, she said that the UN was not involved in Pakistan’s electoral process.
Pakistan’s Election Commission postponed the general election by six weeks due to the turmoil sparked by the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.
Meanwhile, the White House has said that it saw no need for a United Nations investigation into Bhutto’s slaying because Britain’s Scotland Yard would lead the current probe.
"Scotland Yard being in the lead of this investigation is appropriate and necessary and we don’t see a need for an investigation beyond that at this time," spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
Amid charges from Bhutto’s allies that the Musharraf regime had mishandled the probe so far, Perino said, "maybe what happened after the assassination will be a part of the investigation," the Daily Times reported. (ANI)
