Washington, January 28: The medical document by which a paramedic was allegedly trying to blackmail John Travolta, demanding 25 million dollars, has been rendered worthless by the Bahamas officials.

It was suggested that an ambulance driver and a high-ranking Bahamian official teamed up in an attempt to extort money from Travolta and his wife over information related to their 16-year-old son''s death.

Cops had hauled in driver Tarino Lightbourne on January 23 and charged him with conspiracy to commit extortion and attempted extortion.

Pleasant Bridgewater, an island attorney and lawmaker and Obie Wilchcombe, the island's ex-Minister of Tourism and a friend of the celebrity couple, were also probed for their alleged involvement.

Lightbourne had attempted to trade a single page "refusal to transport" document that Travolta signed while the paramedic was treating the actor''s son, Jett, as per the Bahamian police.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Marvin Dames revealed the document was irrelevant in the case.

"The document did not apply in the Travolta case," People magazine quoted Dames as saying.

"Refusal to transport documents are for cases involving minor injuries. If your injuries are minor and you don''t want to be transported, the ambulance driver would produce that form. It waives responsibility on the part of the hospital," Dames added.

Dames added that the Travoltas had left no leaf unturned to save their son.

He added: "We were satisfied from all our investigations that the Travolta family and those who rendered aid to Jett did all that was humanly possible to revive Jett.

"There''s no evidence to support that there was any effort to avoid medical treatment. Lightbourn said that himself in several interviews."

While Dames admitted they had no idea where the original document was, he insisted Lightbourn's significant involvement in the extortion plot.

He said: "He''s the key person here. He''s the one who made the attempt."

Lightbourn has pleaded not guilty and is set to appear before Magistrate Carolita Bethel in Nassau soon. (ANI)
