DERC proposes to bring back 201-400 units slab in electricity billsDelhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has proposed to bring back 201-400 units slab in electricity bills to ease pressure on consumers.

The 201-400 units slab was done away with after DERC announced an increase of 26 per cent in tariff in June this year. The power regulator decided to revert to the original structure after a slew of complaints against overblown electricity bills.

Confirming the proposal, DERC chairman P D Sudhakar said, "We have proposed to restore the original slabs, which will mean restoration of the slab for consumption between 201-400 units and abolition of the new 0-400 units slab."

As per the current slab, if a consumer consumes more than 200 units per month, he/she is charged Rs 4.8 a unit for the entire consumption, while tin the prior arrangement there were different rates were charged for first 200 units and the subsequent 200 units.

Mr. Sudhakar also confirmed that the power regulator would hold a public hearing on 8th of October conduct to discuss the issue. In the hearing the regulator will receive stakeholders' comments on the proposal, following which it will take the final decision.

The proposed change in slab has been made with retrospect effect from 1st of July, when increase tariff had taken effect.

Consumers have also been provided some relief on the water front, with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's promise to waive surcharge in arrears of water bills.
