Dengue cases on rise in New DelhiThe number of dengue cases is multiplying every day. The total number of dengue cases in New Delhi has reached 661 including 45 cases reported on Wednesday. Dengue has taken two lives till now. On an average 20 to 23 cases are reported everyday.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is being criticized for not taking sufficient measures to prevent the spread of dengue. During a high level meeting called up by the Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia, different ways to tackle dengue menace were discussed. Along with high level officials, representatives from public and private hospitals were also present at the meeting.

Special task forces have been constituted by the civic agency to carry out fogging operations and door-to-door drive to check breeding of mosquitoes in the 12 zones of the MCD. Legal notices were issued to people connected with place where dengue larvae were found breeding. More than 1,300 people were fined letting water to stagnate at a site. Even contractors of three Commonwealth Games projects were also fined by the MCD for water stagnation.

Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain stated, “We had gone there for an inspection last week and fined the officials for allowing water stagnation.”
