Death toll of swine flu reaches 100
First swine flu death in India was reported on August 3. Within a month swine flu has taken 100 lives. The increasing number of swine flu patients is threatening government as well as health authorities.
First confirmed case of swine flu was reported in May. Since then it has affected more than 4,000 people. Everyday fresh cases of the H1N1 virus are being diagnosed.
Maharashtra is the worst hit state by swine flu accounting for more than 1,600 swine flu cases and 48 swine flu deaths. With 15 swine deaths, Tamil Nadu is the second state worst hit by H1N1 virus followed by 12 deaths in capital Delhi.
Across India's main 22 international airports, passenger screening has been introduced as many of the confirmed cases of swine flu have returned from overseas travel.
Health authorities warned that number of swine flu caeses can multiply as more and more indigenous cases of the virus are being reported every day. These people neither have any history of traveling abroad nor any association with people who have traveled outside India.
Worldwide swine flu has taken 1,700 lives and it has affected many countries.
