Day to highlight violence against women
Half of the Australian women who are over the age of 15 have been sufferers of violence.
Just fewer than 30 per cent have experienced physical attack. Out of these 16 per cent of cases may be due to their current or former partner and one in five have been sexually assaulted.
Nov 25, White Ribbon Day is the international day led by men. It is for the removal of violence against women.
Chief executive of the Women's Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services, Angela Hartwig assumed that this day is an opportunity to modify attitudes and celebrate women's hearts and minds.
She said that this day is a prospect to change feelings towards women within the community and value women equal to their male equal.
Police attended nearly 35,000 incidents of domestic violence in WA, however Ms Hartwig said that this was not automatically a negative figure for the reason that it meant reporting of incidents was increasing.
On Thursday Perth's White Ribbon fundraising event is being hosted by the Young UNIFEM Australia Perth committee at the Rydges Hotel in Perth at 6.30pm.
