Cyber terrorism – threatening email about terror attacks on BSE and NSEThe security of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was fortified on Monday, after an email threatening to blast them was reported. The Mumbai police registered a case of cyber terrorism.

The police reported that the official mailbox of BSE received an email, in which the sender challenged the security agencies to prevent terror attacks on BSE and NSE. The email was supposedly sent by Shahab Md from an email ID – sh.itaiyeb125@yahoo.in to the administrative email ID – corp.relations@bseindia.com of BSE at 10.44 am (Monday). The email stated that the terror attack on BSE and NSE will be executed by Pakistani-based terror outfit, Lashkar-e-Toiba.

According to the police, the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the email sender indicates the email was sent from Patna, and the Internet Service Provider was Sify. The sender created the email ID just four minutes before sending the email. While creating the email ID, the sender gave two mobile numbers in the personal details column, and the two numbers belong to a photo frame-maker in Patna. The email was composed in English.

The email threatened, "10 terrorists of the Lashkar-E-Taiyeba have planned to strike the BSE and NSE at 12.55 hours on date today. We dare Indian forces to prevent us from doing so. Moreover, 5 men have already entered the premises of BSE on date.”

The police claimed that the case will be solved soon. The Mumbai police and the cyber crime investigation cell of the city crime branch are jointly investigating into the email threat. It was the first case of cyber terrorism in Maharashtra since IT Act was amended in February. The maximum punishment for culprits under cyber terrorism is life imprisonment.
