A cultural hour dedicated to a cause

The cultural hour of the fifth standard students of Vashi-based Fr Agnel's Multipurpose School was conducted at the basketball court on Friday. More than 360 students from six divisions participated in the cultural hour the theme of which was 'Chipko Movement' that was carried out by the tribal people wherein they embraced the trees to avoid them from being cut.

Vijaya Vaithilingam, vice-principal of the school says, "This is a cultural event that we conduct once in a year for students of every standard from one to seven. Our former and senior students also lend a helping hand by teaching the participants different things and choreograph their dances."

'Chipko Movement' was selected as the theme to teach the students the importance of conservation of forests and nature. A skit and some dances, which involved all the 360 students from all the six divisions of class five, were also performed to explain how the movement was executed.

A skit on movement, a Bharatnatyam dance on the evolution of earth, a fusion dance which showed the existence of all creatures and a bamboo dance called 'Bhotiya' was also performed by the students during the function.

Anita Matthew, a teacher from the school said, "The children were dressed in different costumes to depict some or the other things that would be helpful in conserving the nature."
