Congress's efforts to malign Amit Shah's image unsuccessful: BJP

Ravi-Shankar-PrasadNew Delhi, Feb 6 : Reacting to the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against IB officers in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said the Congress' endeavors to malign the image of former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah have been unsuccessful.

"Today, the CBI has filed a chargesheet against the IB officers related to the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, and it does not have Amit Shah's name, as there was no evidence to support his involvement in the case," said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

"The Congress has been targeting him for years and had been conspiring against him. Their conspiracy to malign Shah's image has been unsuccessful," he said.

"The Congress should now answer us, why have they been targeting him since two years?" he asked.

He further added that the larger issue was the extent to which the IB should be allowed to conduct covert operations.

"The larger issue here is that the way IB conducts covert operations against terrorists. In such a case, the extent of involvement of the IB in covert operations needs to be decided," Ravi

Shankar Prasad said.

"It is a matter of national discussion and is an extremely sensitive and serious issue," he added.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had earlier filed a supplementary chargesheet in the alleged fake encounter case. (ANI)
