Washington  - Computer and internetThe internet is full of information - and full of hoaxes, announcing everything from free money to viruses that will destroy your PC. The Hoax Slayer website (http://www.hoax- slayer.com/) can help you determine what's a hoax and what is not. There, hoaxes are broken down by category - including e-mail hoaxes, false warnings, and suspect virus declarations. Visit the site to determine whether a warning that you receive via e-mail or elsewhere on the internet is valid.

Washington (dpa) - Over time, Microsoft's Outlook Express, the popular e-mail program, can develop file-based problems that prevent your e-mail messages from displaying properly - or at all. To fix the problem, you need to perform an operation called "compacting folders." From the File menu, click Folder ... Compact All Folders. Outlook Express will take a few minutes to reduce the size of its e- mail indexes, and afterwards your e-mail messages should display properly. Make a habit of compacting folders every month or so.

Washington (dpa) - The human body wasn't made to sit at a computer all day. So if you spend long hours at the computer, each and every day, ergonomics experts recommend that you compensate not only by taking frequent breaks but also by engaging in physical activity when you're not at work. Relieving stress through physical exertion is vital to avoiding repetitive stress injuries at work.

Washington (dpa) - Need to capture all or part of a screen to place in a document or e-mail message? You can always use the PrntScrn key on your keyboard, but for greater flexibility and ease, consider a free screen capture utility. ScreenHunter is one of the best (http://www.wisdom-soft.com/sh/sh_free.htm). It gives you plenty of options for capturing screens and saving the resulting files.

Washington (dpa) - Want to keep your PC running trouble-free? Don't ignore the dust. As dust blocks vents and coats electronic components, the heat inside a PC is raised, and heat is a PC's worst enemy. About once a month, you should remove the case from your PC, get out a vacuum cleaner, and gently vacuum out the inside of your PC. Also remove obvious dust that covers external vents. (dpa)
