Comcast to offer Skype on TVs to subscribers

Comcast to offer Skype on TVs to subscribersComcast and Skype said on Monday that some of the Comcast subscribers will be able to access video chat on their TV sets.

Comcast is planning a trial of the Skype service this year and launch to greater number of subscribers next year. Comcast said that the Skype-on-TV feature is part of its “strategic partnership” with the popular video calling service provider, which was recently acquired by Microsoft.

The subscribers will be able to use full screen video calling and instant messaging from Skype. The service will not include voice calls to and from outside phone numbers as it will be competitive to Comcast’s own services.

“By combining Comcast’s broad living room reach with Skype’s innovative communications platform and worldwide community of users, we can bring video calling into the heart of the home, allowing people to share life’s experiences both big and small,” Tony Bates, the chief executive of Skype, said in a statement.
