COAI set to challenge TDSAT ruling on dual technology in Supreme Court

Cellular Operators Association of IndiaThe members GSM operators of the main telecom industry lobby group of India - COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) - are not happy with the recent ruling by TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal), according to which, operators are allowed to provide mobile services in both GSM and CDMA platform with the same license. Hence, COAI has decided to challenge the TDSAT ruling.

Earlier, Government had permitted the operators like Tata Teleservices and reliance Communications to provide GSM and CDMA based mobile services. The start-up spectrum was granted to the operators. RCom has already launched its GSM-based mobile services. The COAI had challenged the move in TDSAT, but TDSAT also ruled in favour of the dual technology.

The main members of COAI include Aircel, Bharti Cellular, BPL Cellular, Hutch (Now Vodafone), Idea Cellular, Reliance Telecom, and Spice Communications.
