Chipotle cooperating in Salmonella Outbreak investigation in Minnesota
Minnesota health officials have linked a salmonella outbreak to Chipotle restaurants in the state. As per the state health officials, Chipotle has been cooperating in the investigation in the matter.
Doug Schultz, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Health, said Chipotle is responsive. It has changed suppliers of the suspected food items. "That's the most important thing because while a new supplier could also have problems, it's highly unlikely. Chipotle has also worked with us to review its policies for any employees that might become ill", said Schultz.
Schultz said for now, investigators have not identified any particular product to be the root cause. Since September 2, the agency has received reported of 45 cases affected by Salmonella Newport bacteria. The ones who have been infected are aged between 15 and 67 years old and 56% of them are males. They were likely infected between August 16 and 26.
While carrying out the investigation, the officials found 17 different Chipotle restaurant locations. Chipotle said the safety and well being of our customers is their topmost priority.
It said the ongoing issue does not pose any risk to consumers. But they are commited to work with state health department officers, who try and find out the reason. The officials have urged people that if they feel infected they must immediately take tests to know the truth. Symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever.
