Chidambaram to meet key US business leaders to attract investmentUnion Finance Minister P. Chidambaram is on a four-day visit to the United States as part of his efforts to attract more investments.

During the visit, Mr. Chidambaram will meet some top US government official as well as chiefs of businesses like Wal-Mart, Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

More precisely, he will meet with Walmart Asia Chief Executive Scott Price, Lockheed Martin International CEO Pat Dewar, Boeing International President Sheperd W Hill, software giant Microsoft's General Counsel & Executive Vice President Brad Smith, among others.

The Minister will also hold a meeting with his U. S. counterpart Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew.

An official statement says, "The Finance Minister is likely to discuss the issue of investment by US companies in India especially in infra sector, various policy measures taken by the Government to boost investment in the country."

Meanwhile, the government is mulling plans to hike foreign direct investment (FDI) limits in a number of sectors, including retail, telecom and defence.

The Indian government has been struggling to boost economic activity. In the last financial year, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) growth slipped to 5 per cent, its lowest level in a decade. The rupee on Monday touched its all-time low of 61.21 against the U. S. dollar.
