Chennai gets Rs.250 crore as investment from Sanmina-SCI
Sanmina-SCI has started a new manufacturing unit in Chennai. For this, the US-based company has spent Rs. 250 crore.
The unit will come up at Oragadam and would be supply the units for the electronic manufacturing services company (EMS).
The products thus built would then be supplied to the leading original equipment manufacturers. In all, Sanmina will be catering the medical, defense, aerospace, communications, automotive, consumer and multimedia sectors.
The company also expects to export a portion of its produce.
The factory will be built in an area covering 100 acres and would be employing nothing less than 1,500 people. And if the plans go as expected, then this number could touch 10,000 in another five years' time.
Sanmina-SCI is one of the leading producers in its segment. It wants to develop India as its IT hub for the global operations and starting the manufacturing unit is a step ahead in that direction.
Talking about the launch, Jura Sola, Chief Executive Officer of the company said that the Chennai facility is the 18th one. He further added that a MoU with the Tamil Nadu government has already been signed.
