Ramalinga Raju can face up to 10 years imprisonment together with a fine, which may expand to Rs 25 crore, in the financial scam, which led to erosion of investors wealth by socking Rs 10,000 crore in one day.

Stock market controller SEBI has already asked for a full-fledged enquiry into the matter in order to find out if Raju has breached the different rules relating to dealings in stock market.

Lenovo to lose 2,500 staff worldwideBeijing - Chinese-owned computer maker Lenovo on Thursday said it plans to lose about 2,500 staff, or 10 per cent of its global workforce, in the next three months.

The redundancies are a key part of a restructuring package designed to save Lenovo some 300 million dollars in its next financial year, which begins on April 1, the company said in a statement.

Lenovo, owned by China's Legend group, said it expects to announce a loss for the three months to December 31 last year, following a sharp drop in net profit for the previous quarter.

India ranked at No. 41 in GII

India ranked at No. 41 in GIIIndia secured 41st slot in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2008-09 while US again topped in the listing followed by Germany, Sweden and the UK. The study about global innovation index was done by industry body CII and B-School INSEAD, covering 130 countries of the world. GII uses data from international agencies including the World Bank and the World Economic Forum to prepare final ranking.

India was at 23rd slot in GII last year. The position of other Asian economies including Malaysia and China remained better than India. China ranked at 25th and Malaysia

Satyam Chairman Resigns, Stock Plummets Over 65%Satyam Computers founder and chairman Ramalinga Raju has resigned from the company’s board.

In a letter to the board members, Raju said that the company’s balance sheet has inflated cash and bank balance of Rs 5,040 crore.

“No board member had any knowledge of the real situation. Accrued interest of Rs 376 crore in books is non-existent. Rs 1,230 crore was arranged to Satyam, but was not reflected in the books,” he said.

In response to Raju’s disclosures, the stock was hammered badly by investors, and it lost more than 65 percent.
