BP resumes its effort to kill the damaged well
The BP officials have returned to the oil spill spot to stop the huge oil spill of US history permanently by pumping mud and cement in to it. The BP officials left that spot with the ships because of the fears of the tropical storm but they are back now in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the schedule the pumping of mud and cement to seal the well will begin on 2nd August. As per the US incident commander Thad Allen the injections from the bottom will begin after five days of pumping mud and cement to ensure the well is permanently closed.
According to the government estimates the damaged Macondo well has already spilled 2.31m barrels to 4.1m barrels oil in to the sea.
This eruption began on April 20 after a rig explosion killing 11 people and it was sealed by BP on 15th of July by placing a tighter cap over the well. No one thought it so dangerous when the spill started but gradually it mixed with the sea and started to flow towards the US coasts.
The US president Obama has said the spill as the biggest environmental disaster in the history of US.
