BMW X1 to be produced in Chennai with parts imported from GermanyGerman auto maker, BMW is manufacturing its X1 model for the Indian market at its plant in Chennai with parts brought in from Munich in Germany.

The car is a very popular choice as it offers the functionality of a car but looks like a cool Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). The X1 is easy to drive and offers amazing technological features besides having a look of a SUV. The model has some similarities with the older X3 model and comes with steeply raked windscreen and tail-gate.

The interior of X1 is spacious and offers enough room in the back seats. It comes with a Servotronic steering system and allows 420 litres of luggage at the back that can be increased to an impressive 1,350 litres by folding the rear seats. There are also convenient bottle holders for the passengers in the vehicle.

The X1 is powered by engine with 177 horses and 350Nm of torque and the automatic transmission of the vehicle is very responsive. The engine is silent and offers 15kmpl of economy. As for safety features, the X1 comes with upto eight airbags, three-point seatbelts for all seats and system that turns off the central locking and shuts off the fuel pump in case of an accident. BMW will also offer Sideimpact protection bars on the doors and a 'Dynamic Stability Program'.

As for the music lovers, the X1 comes with eight speakers offering a 180-watt RMS output. The higher models come with a 12GB hard disc and a8.8-inch LCD screen that can connected to an iPod/iPhone. Bluetooth integration allows users to answer calls, and get messages, tasks and notes read out by the system.
