Blu-Ray Will Not be Put in the X-Box 360 - Microsoft
A buzz was created everywhere as soon as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was quoted by Gizmodo magazine as saying that a Blu-Ray accessory for the X-Box 360 might be coming soon. All speculation, however, died down recently when the software giant made it clear that no such accessory is on its way.
Responding to a question about adding Blu-Ray in the X-Box 360, Ballmer had said in the interview, "Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-Ray in there. You'll be able to get Blu-Ray drives as accessories". While everyone thought that this meant that soon one would be able to buy X-Box specific Blu-Ray accessories that were not the case, as was made clear by a Microsoft spokesperson in an e-mail.
"Steve was referring to Blu-ray accessories for the PC. As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360. In fact, the future of home entertainment starts this fall when Xbox 360 becomes the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies. With a library of thousands of TV shows and movies to choose from, Xbox 360 owners can instantly watch the movies they want, when they want, in the highest form of high definition" - it read.
Rumors have been circulating around for over a year now that Microsoft might any-day spring a surprise about Blu-Ray for the X-Box 360, the software firm's popular gaming console. While what will happen in the future remains to be seen, the plans do seem very distant as of now.
