A blast in final shuttle test
The ear barring shriek from a space shuttle hitting off the mountains of northern Utah was seen for the last time on Thursday, after the NASA and its contractor Alliant Techsystems ignited the final ground test after 30 years.
The 52nd reusable solid rocket motor was tested for two minute and three seconds horizontal launch, performing to support NASA's remaining four missions before the shuttle blasted.
According to NASA's manager for the shuttle propulsion office it was the safest solid rocket motor ever test fired on northern Utah grounds, however the team was assured and confident about the coming next launches because of the test firing.
43 design objectives were scanned during the test, including the assurance for final shuttle motor's safety, to be able to launch astronauts and graduating the performance of minor upgrades to materials.
Thursday's final shuttle test gathered 5,000 public spectators, to witness the firing, including the local school children, officials from across NASA's shuttle program. However the shuttle lasted with a bit bittersweet taste leaving the celebration in completing something.
