Bertone Mantide super car at Shanghai Motor Show

Shanghai, China - The Italian designer Bertone has a reputation for unique show cars and revealed its latest super car at the Shanghai Motor Show, the Stile Bertone Mantide, based on the new Corvette but with added aerodynamic features from aviation and Formula 1 racing.

The 6.2-litre V8 power package gives it an acceleration from zero to 100 km/h of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 321 km/h.

Among the racing car credentials is the FIA-crash tested safety cell, carbon-fibre bucket seats and the roll cage. The air intakes along the flanks near the rear wheels come from aviation design. From the top, a glass roof stretches from the bonnet to the tail with four exhaust pipes extending from a "gaping mouth" rear. Optical highlights are set with the meshed-wire air vents and narrow LED lights.

Officially the Mantide is a one-off show car and the model seen in Shanghai will be presented at various other car exhibitions this year. But Bertone has indicated that it might produce a small number of vehicles, if it can find an investor.
