Berger Paints acquires Sherwin Williams India unit
Berger Paints India has said that it is planning to acquire the architectural paints business unit of Sherwin Williams Paints India.
Berger's subsidiary Brushworks Paints acquired the business unit from Sherwin Williams. The companies have not announced the financial details of the deal. Berger Paints manufactures and markets a range of decorative and industrial paint products. It has operations across the country and has seven manufacturing facilities, 135 depots, 2,500 employees and more than 15,000 dealers.
KS Dhingra, Chairman, Berger Paints said, "This transaction will significantly increase our presence in key markets, it builds on our strategy to grow our architectural paint business throughout India."
Abhijit Roy, Berger's MD and CEO said that the acquired unit will be included in the earnings per share from the first quarter of the 2014. The acquisition of the unit will allow Berger to expand its presence in the southern Indian market, where Sherwin Williams maintains a strong presence. Sherwin-Williams Company is a US based paint maker with presence across various countries.
The shares of Berger Paints increased 2.1 per cent at Rs 210.55 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
