The Indian cricket board has decided to conduct an Inter-Corporate prize money tournament to promote employment opportunities for cricket players of the country. It was decided at the meeting of BCCI working committee held in Mumbai on Saturday. The cricket body would offer lucrative prizes to the winners and encourage the corporate houses to recruit young players for the proposed 50-over and Twenty20 format cricket matches.
The winning teams would be given cash prize of Rs 1 crore and the runner up can enjoy Rs 50 lakh prize. The semi finalists would get Rs 25 lakh. BCCI has appointed its joint secretary and former member of the national selection panel, Sanjay Jagdale as chairman of the committee to implement the board's decision. In addition, K S Viswanathan, Prof. R S Shetty, Chamundeshwaranath, Ranjib Biswal and Anirudh Choudhary are also selected members of the committee.
On revenue losses in the current year, the BCCI said, "The Working Committee noted that there would be a reduction in revenue in the current year to the effect of Rs 120 crore, as a result of the cancellation of two ODIs against England and the cancellation of India's tour to Pakistan. This includes the loss of revenue arising out of the postponement of ICC Champions Trophy 2008."
BCCI is also planning to hold special camps for fast bowlers, spinners and batsmen at Mohali, Chennai and Mumbai respectively.
