Bajaj’s small car may sport a tag of Rs. 1.1 lakhWith a view to take on the Tata Nano, sources confirm that Bajaj may price its small car being developed in alliance with Japanese automaker Nissan may price the product somewhere around the Rs. 1.1 lakh tag.

It is believed that the product will make its India debut in 2012 and the ultra-low cost car will mark Bajaj's entry into the four-wheeler arena. Moreover, Renault President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said at the Annual General Meeting of the company that it is trying to price it around the $2,500 tag and will be making every possible effort to price it around the same levels.

While Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto has shown consent to the decision it has most probably ended the pricing hurdle between the two parties which has supposedly delayed the project for long. It may be noted here that two companies announced the plans for the manufacturing of the low cost car in 2008 but the project has been delayed as it faced several hurdles in the recent past.

Notably, Renault-Nissan is also in alliance with Ashok Leyland to build a low cost car for the Indian market.
