Automakers may suffer a muted March
While the auto majors in the Indian market have been riding on the best growth phase ever enjoyed by the sector, but the growth may hit a roadblock when the companies will release their unit sales figures for March 2010.
In fact, the rising excise and interest rate hikes were able to lure consumers towards the showrooms in February taking their sales to record high but now since the hikes are in place, experts believe that the companies may find them in a catch 22 situation.
On the one end, the buzz in the hatchback segment has been able to keep the buzz alive and the consumer sentiment high in the Indian market but now with problems arising, many companies expect a drop in the sales figures for the month of March this year.
Normally, the month of March is expected to rack high unit sales as it is the close of the financial year but with pricing increasing, many consumers are shying away from entering the dealerships.
With another round of hikes expected to be in effect after the BSIV norms are applicable in the 13 major cities, it has the paved the way for more serious problems for the automakers in India.
