Austria's Paszek escapes ban over illicit blood treatment
Vienna - Austrian tennis player Tamira Paszek has been spared a ban after being found guilty of receiving a forbidden blood treatment method, her country's anti-doping agency watchdog confirmed Friday.
The fact that it was Paszek herself who had made the homeopathic treatment public contributed to the decision that was reached Thursday evening.
To treat her pack pain, the number three among Austria's women players had been injected with a dose of her own blood, enriched with homeopathic essences.
Because of her lingering back problems, it is unclear when 18-year-old Paszek will start playing tournaments again.
Paszek is ranked 88th by the Women's Tennis Association. (dpa)
