‘Anonymous’ hacking group distancing itself from WikiLeaks

‘Anonymous’ hacking group distancing itself from WikiLeaksIn a recent Twitter post, the ‘Anonymous’ group of hackers revealed that they distancing themselves from Julian Assange’s whistleblower site, WikiLeaks, because the key focus of the site has undergone a notable change of late.

The Twitter post, on the hacker group’s Twitter account page called Anonymous IRC, said that the main reason behind Anonymous’ decision to drift away from WikiLeaks was that the site was largely becoming “the one man Julian Assange show.”

According to the infamous Anonymous hacker outfit, WikiLeaks becoming more and more focused on the personal struggle of Assange – the site’s Australian founder – and has, thus, diverted from its previous key objective of ensuring government transparency by exposing classified documents publicly.

Despite the fact that the Anonymous hacking group has been one of the most steadfast and vocal associates of Assange and the WikiLeaks site, the hackers now feel that the focus of the site is “more and more on Julian Assange,” with the result that the “actual leaks and the fight for freedom of information” have been pushed “further and further.”

Noting that the main idea behind WikiLeaks was to give the public a peek into the information which is generally kept secret by governments and industries, the Anonymous hackers said: “We have been worried about the direction WikiLeaks is going for a while.”
